Week 1: Student Voice Data Discussions, Think-Pair-Share & FACT LGI Photo by Billy and Ethan
This week we will look at Think-Pair-Share options in the classroom and discuss why including quick draw, quick write and Chalkboard Splash into the classroom program will increase participation and engagement.
The FACT is Learning Goal Inventory - teachers will include one Learning Goal Inventory in their students' Learning Diaries. The LGI is a formative assessment that in on going as students work towards the Learning Goal - a bit like a KWL but with more depth and focus on where and when this learning takes place.
As a result of our Student Voice data there still tends to be an area of concern where students feel they are known as individuals, have a go at Getonome. This is a simple yet effective way of learning a little about your students each day and your students finding out what they have in common with others.

Week 2: Three Way Conferences
This week spend your time with your team to go through 3 Way Conferences and ensure you have your learning journals as they need to be.
Week 3: Unit Plans and Unit Reflections
Formative assessment strategies ensure the assessment is ongoing and also gathered regularly so there is not such a big 'assessment focus' at the end of every unit.
Unit reflections are crucial for forward planning next steps for both students and programs.
With student/teacher/parent conferences on all this week take your release time to ensure your conference reports are where were you want them to be.

WEEK 4: 10 Principles of Teaching Mathematics/Teaching new vocabulary
Last year we spent time with Robyn Holt unpacking the Effective Pedagogy in Mathematics - 10 principles. Robyn has requested we re-look at these and critique how we are using them in our math lessons (however they are multi-subject principles). You should all have a copy of this document, but if you do not go to www.iaoed.org, go to and you should be able to download this document as an i-book. This link isn't new to us but i found it on Teaching Channel and thought it would be helpful when teaching the language of maths or in reading when developing vocabulary. https://www.teachingchannel.org/videos/build-student-vocabulary

Week 5: Mathematical Language and Key Maths Teaching Principles
Last week we looked at Effective Pedagogy in Maths focusing on pp 21 Mathematical Language. Aimee has put together an easy to use template with an explanation on how she uses it in her classroom. Thanks Aimee! During our discussions last week we also highlighted an area in the key maths teaching principles to focus on, these discussions will be great for to critically reflect on our practice. This week we will continue to look at the key maths teaching principles and introduce a new TPT.
Click here for Aimee's template and explanation.
Using similes to analyze concepts or clarify topics - this is a great TPT that can be used in any subject and will not only develp high order thinking but integrate the written word and vocabulary into any subject or topic.

Week 6:
Appraisal Documents: I will be meeting with teachers individually to go over their Appraisal Document and highlight areas there is already evidence for and also discuss how your RTC Learning Journal is going.

Week 8: Student Voice Feedback to Lou
Early in term 2 we sat and discussed our Student Voice data and selected some areas to focus on. Once you have completed your term 2 student voice survey you will be able to compare any similarities/differences etc. Should be interesting. Also we will looking at Learning Journals as this was not covered last week. How is the maths key principles focus going?
Week 10: Student Voice and Using Video to Improve Practice.
This session we will look at the Term 2 Student Voice results and see how the areas you decided to concentrate on have developed. There has been excellent feedback from teachers about conversations and new understandings they have made with their students. Don't forget to blog this as it will make great professional reading for many. This link https://www.teachingchannel.org/videos/students-improving-teaching demonstrates how a high school gets feedback from her students. It would be interesting to read your thoughts on this (I think we do this much better).
This link https://www.teachingchannel.org/videos/improve-teaching-with-video? demonstrates how a teacher can use the flip camera, (of which we have a few), to record and reflect on their own practice It would be so great to see teachers giving this a go, and blogging on what they discovered. With the holidays arriving I would like to thank all teachers for their support and feedback on our PLD over this term. Enjoy the holidays.
